BASF, the world’s leading chemical company, has created a pioneering smart office in Berlin Hub. e-shelter security technologies GmbH played a central role in this, as the company took over the planning and implementation of the systems and is still responsible for their maintenance.

BASF Services Europe GmbH provides its employees with around 900 bookable workstations and over 90 meeting rooms in an innovative office complex covering an area of around 15,000 m². A variety of technologies, including room and desk occupancy sensors and BLE beacons, ensure that the approximately 2,500 employees can find their way around quickly and efficiently. The smart office design guarantees that all employees can find a suitable workstation at any time.

A key aim of the project was to create an intelligent workspace that ensures that all employees who come into the office find a suitable workstation. The solution should also enable employees to find their way quickly around the new building. Compliance with BASF’s corporate identity (CI) and corporate design (CD) guidelines was also important.

e-shelter security implemented the solution with Thing-it applications and integrated various use cases that meet the requirements of the BASF Hub Berlin:

— Desk and Room Booking

The booking of workstations and meeting rooms is supported by the use of LoRa sensors, which are connected to a LoRaWAN infrastructure, as well as Bluetooth beacons. This enables flexible use of available resources and optimal room utilization.

— Indoor Navigation and People Finding

With the help of BLE beacons, employees can quickly find their way around the building and easily locate other people

— Customized App – OurPlace Smart App

A customized app offers employees a central platform for all Smart Office functions and creates a high recognition value between user app companies thanks to the customer-specific color and image design.

— Internal Ticketing and Info Pages

These functions support the internal communication flow and help to solve problems quickly.

— Office-365-Integration

Integration with Office 365 enables seamless meeting room booking and single sign-on (SSO) for a simplified user experience.
